Nominee's Bio: Isaac and his colleagues are employing engineering to empower rural community schools. He and his group installed electricity-generating merry-go-rounds for children to charge LED lanterns so they will have light at home to do extra hours of study; a computer library with satellite internet; a book library; science kits for teachers to use; and made rural communities' schools attractive to children so they will be happy at school. Good grades have resulted from Empower Playgrounds projects in rural community schools that have improved school attendance. Isaac and his team feel that the best way to close the educational gap is to support rural schools.
